Me & sports psychology

As long as I can remember, I’ve been driven by performance—especially in sport. Competition and the desire to win have played a big role. Since completing my master’s in sport psychology, however, I’ve realized that what I truly want is to get the best out of myself and push my limits rather than just win. Sport is a micro-universe where life is reflected in a pressure cooker.

Your shortcomings and weaknesses are exposed, but so are your strengths. Where can you still grow, and which aspects are already strong? I love being able to work on this every day as a sports psychologist.

becoming a mindset coach

On the very first day of my psychology bachelor’s, I already said I wanted to specialize in sport psychology. From a young age I’ve been fascinated by elite sport, and even in diapers my brother and I would reenact the medal ceremonies of the Winter and Summer Games. So it was written in the stars that I’d make this my profession. After completing my master’s in sport and performance psychology, I briefly tried having a “normal” job, but I only lasted six months. Since then I’ve been busy maintaining and expanding my own (online) mindset coaching practice.

Cycling

My interest in sport psychology grew out of cycling. In 2009 I found the game Pro Cycling Manager 2006 in the bargain bin at MediaMarkt, played my first race, and I was hooked. I simply had to become a cyclist.

The competition, the suffering, the tragedy, and the heroism grabbed me and never let go. These days I’ll ride anything with two wheels—as long as I can pedal it myself. From bikepacking to road racing, from cyclocross to exploring the world—give me a bike and I’m happy.
